The 10th Annual Showdown

Jeff Schalk and Sue Haywood now own the course records. Will Sue's record have any challengers? Schalks record sure will have plenty of people gunnin for it. Can Bishop Price or Eatough bring it down?? Cyclingnews.com has a great race report from the 2007 event. The Floyd Factor factor was pretty neat! The WV Mountain Men scored the rockstar award!! The SM100 is on the Dirt Rag World Tour for 2008. Check out the NUE Series Ad in Dirt Rag. Jacks's Gallery is up. Jonathan Bruck's Gallery is up.

Trail Conditions around Harrisonburg, VA: Tuesday- 5/8 Springing Forward!

The weather has been amazing, totally inspiring. Good chance of some rain in these parts. Today is Fawley day, the man is in the house, time to rock n roll with the program!

The Southern Traverse is shaping up nicely. Only a few more days of work to have it riding better then ever!!

We are trying to get fit for the touring season. A 10 hr trail work marathon on Sunday down on Beards Mtn. was great base training and Rock n Roll good times!!

Check this USFS link for updates on current conditions in the National Forest..

SMT took the show on the road a while back. We directed a kids MTB camp for Fairfax County. Wakefield Park was a great place to do it. All the IMBA built trails were a hoot.

Check out these pics of our memorial day weekend tours. Just in case you don't really know what it is we do. Family tours, group tours like boy scouts or school and church outing clubs. We also specialize in group and solo hot rod training camps on both road and mountain bikes.

Mike Klasmeier scored the day for his journey deep into the GW. - 4/1

Elliott's always brings home the bacon! - 3/16

Jamie displays the focus and determination of a seasoned veteran as she navigates a ledge on the narrow mossy singletrack. We had an amazing time with the extended Snedeker family. What a great group - swimming, biking and just enjoying the outdoors. - 4/3

I am gonna try the archive thing again - blog style

Robin rolling along with Eric coming around the corner behind. It was a big cold day on the mountain. Thanks to Robin's great smile and humor the whole day we had a great time!! - 4/6

Chris Hoy shown here riding Whetstone Ridge. Chris is the man! We are wishing Chris and his family the best as they help him recover from a very unfortunate accident. He was hit by a car while riding his bike and was pretty seriously injured. Thank goodness that Winston wasn't with him!!!! - 3/7

Joey Beck sporting his super S man jersey. The views are still rocking all over the place as the canopy hasn't come in on the high country. - 4/6

Mike Boyes chilling post ride in Wilson Creek at the foot of Middle Mountain. We had just dropped into camp after making the big sweet loop on Middle to Warm Springs Mountain. The previous day spent clearing Brushy Ridge trail was well worth it- 3/25

whazzzzzzzzzz up!

Had a great outing with the Mountain Hardwear and Montrail crew at Seneca Rocks. These guys brought in their face people for a hands on weekend of playing, eating whitegrass food, dancing to local music and having a wonderful time in the great outdoors. The face people are the folks who sell the product in retail stores around the east coast. Top notch! - 5/1

The Roubaix was tight!! All the fast jokers either fell apart or just didn't show. Nick was the only one who kept it together. He looked bored by himself so he just settled in with the fun group of Carp, Kyle, McMillan and myself. Carp nor myself got to enjoy the drag race to the line. Probably a good thing, cause if we were together in that stretch it would have been ugly fast, and there probably wasn't enough room for both of us. Nick was just having a good time watching us guys go at it. McMillan rolled in numero uno and so did Julie G. - 4/13

Klas and I didn't get any of the schmackle that we were expecting yesterday. Well, it did sprinkle a bit when we were rolling out from the car. An hour into the ride we were whistling along to the blue bird sky. Sun burn on my arms along the Traverse. Soooo nice! The April fools were the folks who didn't come. - 4/1

Carp got us moving and a shakin along Beards Mtn. down in the Warm Springs Ranger District. We cleared about 9 miles of trail with Mike Boyes and Joey Boyle from the western world - wv and ohio. The Burg crew was strong this year with Kyle, Dan, Thomas, Kurt, Misty, Mike and I. We rocked it out on that amazing trail and we are one step closer to the SDS. - 3/30

The Bike Summit in DC was another fine advocacy event. This year we pushed our delegate's to support and fund the National Park Service Centennial Celebration. In 10 years - 2018, our National Parks will be 100 years old. The Bill will result in huge boost to revitalize our decrepit Parks that have been suffering from years of funding cuts. - 3/9

OK, finally getting out from under this flu action. What a drag... Like I (or anyone) really needed to lose a week. - 2/11

I am crushed from the Wild Oak Run- Superbowl Ride double feature. I can barely walk down my stairs. It feels sooooooo good. Thanks to Kyle and his roomies for hosting the fiesta Saturday night. - 2/4

Feels great to be sticking around the Burg and getting some riding and running in!!! - 1/11

Did the Whitegrass supreme session today. Harlan, Misty and I followed Sue and Stroh around in fine nord style. Skiing in the sunshine is such a treat!!! - 1/4

I just got back from a really cool exploitative session down by Mt. Rogers in South Western, VA. The Mount Rogers National Recreation Area is home to the Iron Mt., Creeper, and some other really cool trails. Could there be a Virginia Highland 100 in 2008?? Anything is possible!!! - 12/31

What a crazy busy week. Couldn't have done it without super Ryan Fawley, Kyle, Branch and Nicko. Nice to have a good pose' that can come in and help out at a moments notice. Girl Scouts, the Lutheran Camp then the SM100 training group - 6 days of making it happen. Time for a day off to clean up shop!!!-7/22

Phase 1 of the roof is done, YEA HA!!! Spent a week up in DC doing the kids camp at Wakefield. It was a really good time. Got to hang with the family while I was up there too. Did some nice paddling with the O's on the Chesapeake Bay and Adrianne at Jacks Boat House on the Potomac (twice even!!) Hope that happens more often, its quite relaxing, and fun too! - 7/15

May was pretty crazy- full tilt. June is looking like more of the same. From the Hoo Ha!... to the Stoopid 50... to some tours.... to operation roof to the TOUR d BURG. I hope I get some riding in between!! - 6/5

It was a great weekend on the trails down at Douthat State Park. Sunday was amazing weather!! Dale Heath has stepped up to the plate and is getting Douthat's Trail System back together. - 5/7

Sooooooo much to share, I just can't keep up with it all..... trail building with Rich and Dan at Roseryville, sea kayaking all over the place, working with the pose' up in PA on the Stoopid 50, chainsawing the SMT with Mike and Prince, the HBurg Crit going round and round, Eatough's Movie in Court Square, the Greenbriar event, Jen coming over to say Hi!!!, going for a sweet ride with Benjamin, the Turtles along the C & O Canal, chasing the moon for the last 3 nights - its been awesome!!!, time for a deep breath.... now, time to go get MORE!! - 5/2

Dragon's Back made for some good racing as always. Too bad nobody does any work on those trails. I bet you will barely be able to ride them in 2-3 weeks. What a HUGE bummer. My helmet almost got ripped off a few times by branches. Its nice to think that you are paying for someone to be a handler of the trails when you pay a race entry, or you are paying for food or entertainment. or some super fast pro's cash purse. This time I paid for a cup of multi year old kidney beans, a pretty good check went to hot rod Todd Helmick (which does make me happy), 2 don's johns and a medic to be on a corner of the course. Not a total loss but not anywhere near my expectations either. Would things have been better if there was a better turnout??.. I really don't think so. - 4/15

I had a great ride with the SM100 training group. Anne Mader is one smooth rider. Pat, Eric, Amy and Tim made it out to E-Furnace for a nice pre-icy rain training session. It worked out well and we all had a good time. - 4/14

Went for a sweet ride with Mike and Thomas. It was old school action at its finest. Thoughts of Kelly Steelman, Georgie W and the days of rigid bikes. We rode from town and climbed up Long Run Road and descended off of Dictums Ridge and then rolled on back into town. It should be a weekly ritual. - 3/30

A super sweet weekend with the TEAM. I call it the Mike and Chris show. We pulled together the Douthat weekend. Brushy Ridge is open and soooooooooooo sweet - 70 manly man hours later. Thanks Mike Boyes, Andy C, Carpooong, Wanderson, M Day, Andy Kinley, Chris Caul, Dale Health, super Childers, the always sexy Joey Boyle, and c'ville Blake Walker. Was pretty sweet to have Fuddy, Johnny and Kirby join in for Sundays ride - 3/26

I haven't been bloggin in a while.... till now. WV style- mind blowing action. The POSe' was there on the North Fork. The conditions, never sooooo good! Might have been the top of the all time ride list. For anyone that knows the exploits of riding I have been privy too, it was that good. Tommi McMillar, thanks for setting it up and Carpenter, thanks for pushing it across the ridge to get us outie. Pics are blinging from this ride. - 10/15

Did some SM100 sweeping yesterday on Dowells - awesome!! - Bounding deer, tree climbing bear, and ghostly bobcat tracks.....o my! - what a day!!! - 9/76

The Shenandoah Mountain Touring Chicks rocked out at the 24 hours of Big Bear. Independent Fab gal Kerry Combs put together a fun and fast group of gals including the amazing Mer, Churtle the speediest turtle, and Elizabeth Booooooooyle. Our buddies over at Dirt Rag even gave them some sweet press online. - 6/13

The Stokesville-Douthat-Stokesville ride was super sweet. A perfect bunch for two days of steady gunnin on some rowdy trail. - 5/15
